Storing IBCs and drums safely

An IBC or drum can leak due to damage, a loose tap or a mistake when dispensing. Without containment, the liquid ends up on the floor, in the soil or in the sewer.

In the Netherlands, rules also apply to the storage of packaged hazardous substances, for example from the PGS 15 guideline.

What to look out for

  • Which liquid are you storing, and is the spill tray resistant to it?
  • How many IBCs or drums are there, and how much containment capacity is needed?
  • Is the storage indoors or outdoors (rainwater in the spill tray)?
  • Is the storage temporary or permanent, and does it need to be movable?
  • How much space is available?
